The Serenity of Simsbury
Designed as an HGTV Dream Home, this seaside
cottage exudes warmth and charm, with a relaxed and welcoming air.
Natural wood is part of the design theme throughout the open floor plan,
found in the kitchen’s hardware floors and cherry cabinetry. Simsbury cabinetry, with its flat drawer fronts and beaded
door panels, lends a clean and simple look with echoes of classic Shaker style.
To make the most of the beautiful view, the designer
eliminated wall cabinets in favor of large windows above the sink. Ample storage remains, however, in extensive base cabinetry
that includes a peninsula and central island, plus additional cabinetry and
counter space along the inside wall.
A
convenient planning desk was created using two file drawer bases with a desk
vanity drawer between. In the desk
area, 48” wall cabinets are augmented with optional added drawers beneath.
The island of this bright and airy seaside kitchen takes on the look of
time-honored furniture. The ends of the wall base cabinets are extended down
4-1/2”, and fitted with arched corbels to achieve the appearance of curving
legs. With its contrasting white
finish, the island stands out boldly against the Coriander finish and Coffee
glaze used in the rest of the room’s cabinetry.
